2,106-Passenger Nieuw Amsterdam is Holland America's Newest Vessel

With the ever growing size of cruise ships, Holland America takes its first serious step over the 2000 passenger barrier. The Nieuw Amsterdam IV weighs in at 86000 tons and hopes to carry on the tradition with which her mother, grandmother, and great grandmother established. To enhance her rich history a large investment has been placed into the artwork which will be found around the ship.

Holland America Line has installed an array of works valued at over $3 million, ranging from antiques by traditional Dutch masters to creations by renowned contemporary artists. Some pieces reflect the Dutch Golden Age while others, such as the spectacular centerpiece in the atrium, express a contemporary curiosity. Adorning the ceiling of Nieuw Amsterdam is an eye-catching abstract sculpture of the New York skyline made from clear translucent blocks that hang upside-down. The significant collection, including works by celebrated artists Andy Warhol, Richard Estes and Roy Lichtenstein, continues with astounding displays throughout the ship.
As with most new cruise ships the amenities on this ship are designed to immerse the traveler into an array of new experiences and the Nieuw Amsterdam is no different. A wine tasting bar, luxury jewelry boutique, and Silk Den lounge are just a few of the features which stick out.

The Nieuw Amsterdam will be sailing out of Venice, Italy on July 14th, August 19th, and September 24th for a 12 day cruise to the following ports: Venice, Italy;  Split, Croatia;  Piraeus (Athens), Greece;  Istanbul, Turkey;  Mykonos, Greece;  Kusadasi (Ephesus), Turkey;  Thira (Santorini), Greece;  Katakolon, Greece. Prices begin at $2600 for an interior room.

Lets see if Holland America's largest ship can compete with the "average sized" ships of the larger cruise lines.
